CPG Centre Point Group (CPG) recruitment services is gearing up for some Serious Fun to support Barretstown, an organisation which provides therapeutic camps for children with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.
CPG has pledged to donate and raise funds and awareness of Barretstown throughout 2008 and looks forward to developing CPG’s relationship with Barretstown by encouraging our employees and as many of our clients as possible to get involved with Barretstown and CPG organised fundraising events.
The company, based at Dawson Street, Dublin, is planning a series of events including:
- Serious Fun Greyhound Racing at Shelbourne Park in March
- Participating in Corporate Challenge Day in May
- Giving a percentage of the fee per candidate placed during July & September
- Holding a family Christmas party in aid of Barretstown in December
- Donating a percentage of its ‘refer-a-friend’ scheme to the children’s charity.
Managing Director Helen Roberts said: “Barretstown appealed to CPG as a Charity of Choice for 2008, primarily as an Irish Charity working with Children across Europe and following, CPG understand how imperative the camps that Barretstown provide to these children are. We are excited to get involved with Barretstown this year and look to our contributions making a difference to the children’s time at Barretstown”.
In many cases the children who come to Barretstown, in Co Kildare, have been denied the ordinary experience of childhood by the random cruelty of illness. The psychological support Barretstown offers enables children to make real changes in their lives, re-building children’s confidence, self-esteem trust and courage in a safe, fun and supportive environment. It’s not a holiday for these kids (aged between 7 and 17 years) it’s ‘therapeutic recreation’: a medically-endorsed activity programmes which aids recovery from cancer and other serious illness – better known at Barretstown as ‘Serious Fun’!
Jenny Winter, Barretstown’s CEO, said: “This year around 1,500 sick children will come to Barretstown from Ireland and 21 European countries. Everything, including airfares and first-class medical care, is provided free of charge so Barretstown has to raise €4.5 million each year to run its programmes. Almost all our funding comes from generous individuals and companies like CPG. We’re delighted to welcome them on board.”
